to what extent is it appropriate to provide systems of juvenile justice separate from the provision made in respect of adults who offend?

The law is careful to protect minors from the consequences of some of their actions. in other words to protect children from themselves.
When I was a child the age of criminal responsibility was eight years of age. We were deemed to no right from wrong but not necessarily the consequences of our actions. I think the age is now 12 but I think the law is a little on the lenient side because at that age they should be aware that their actions can cause unpleasent consequences. The protection of the law should at this point be only to prevent further offences. It does not work very well, but then neither did transportation and the birch, not really
