and my laptop (Toshiba) shows it is receiving, but cannot get it to show a web page. If WiFi will work in Airports etc. what is the need to configure a router? Since it is putting out a signal. I'm really confused. Not to swift with computer technology and terminolgy. Whew!

Hi. Right click the Wi-fi icon and select "View available networks". Pick one (yours should be there) and try it. If you have a secure link (WPA is best, WEP is OK) you will need a key code.

The router may have a built-in firewall which is not allowing Internet access for wireless connections. You just need to go to the router's configuration page and enable Internet on the wireless port.
