Well there were the Blackfoot, Sioux, Crow, Apache, Shanee to name a few. If you are doing this for a school paper or just for information you need to search it out. There were many tribes and the only time they united was during the period of the little Big Horn.
It's sorta like in Europe to stop the Huns or Turks, they conquered people piece meal, but when united they were defeated.

It's interesting that the Spanish/Mexicans did not settle in southern United States for this reason as they could not subdue the Indians. They tried making them servants/slaves but they would fight and run away.
The American Indian was the best light calvery in the world. They attacked lightening fast, could shoot riding at top speed and disapperar.

I have an uncle that is full blooded Cherokee and I asked him years ago why doesn't the American Indian b-tch and moan like others. He told me that they fought a 400 year running war with the most powerful nation in the world and lost and there was no reason to do that as silence was their pride.
