I whole heartedly agree. Although I'm not a fan, she is the most dominant player in women's tennis right now. She's got 8 titles on the year to prove just how talented she really is. In 2008, it's going to be difficult defending every one of those titles, as other players look to improve and jump up the rankings.
With Lindsay Davenport back on the tour, it will make Henin's dominance very hard to repeat for another year. When you add a more inspired and healthy Maria Sharapova and Serena Williams to the mix, the women's game will be tougher than ever. Then include Ivanovic, Jankovic, Dementieva, Kuznetsova, Mauresmo, Chakvetadze, Vaidisova and Golovin to the mix, and I can assure you Henin won't have 8 titles next year.
Justine won't be playing for much longer, so I don't expect her to continue her level of dominance the next couple of years around. In the end, her health will do her in, but until then, I don't see her dominating too much more. Like Federer, Henin can be stopped. It's a matter of believing and executing.

Justine Henin has had a very fine year and is clearly #1 right now, but I agree it might be quite difficult to defend all these points next year. However, she did miss the Australian Open in '07, so if she wins there in '08 (or even if she only gets to the semis or final), she will rack up even more points and increase her lead in the rankings in the first part of the year. Although competition will be tough next year, if she remains healthy and in similar form, I would have to believe she will be at the top of the rankings again, unless someone else has an unbelievably great year, which is always a possibility.

Of course it will be difficult to defend them ALL, but I think she will defend the majority. Nobody is anywhere near Justine at the mo, Sharapova is completly crap at the mo, I think Kuznetsova is as good as shes gonna get and has got lucky in her ranking, the Williams sisters are good but lack a complete game and are getting on, Ivanovic is good but shes got a long way to go before she gets anywhere near Justine. That girl's awesome at the mo, nobody can touch her. I think she can keep it up unless a newbie comes thru (like Djokovic did this year for Feddy)

Even though there's alot of good players out there, I think she's playing a level above everyone else, ala Federer in the men's game. I mean, she just won the US Open without losing a set and beating both Williams sisters and Kuznetsova! She has cut down on her unforced errors and is playing higher percentage tennis instead of going for low percentage winners all the time. She has found her stride and I pick her to win at least 3 slams next year. She also has alot more variety in her game than the other girls (who just hit hard all the time) and that too reminds me of Federer.

It could get a bit harder next year because of some of the other players out there such as Sharapova and Ivanovic but I do think she will probably be able to defend on some of them. She has won 3 French in a row. That may be a bit harder to defend because she's trying to go for her 4th in a row.

The women's game is a lot more competitive than the men's game, and their consistency (since Graf) hasn't been the best.
However, Henin has had a great past couple of years (remember that she DID make all four finals last year). However, whether she will be able to keep up will be uncertain. She certainly has as good as, if not a better, chance than everyone on the tour, though.

I agree that it gets more and more difficult to keep on winning so many titles ....and, with time, age catches on :::besides the fact that all her competitiors continue to improve and become greater threats with new ones always around the horizon. New techiques and sophistication will also creep in all the time.
Today, she's the undoubted NO 1! 2008?....I think she'll still be because she seems to have been 'born again' - overcome her personal life problem in the recent divorce. So she's more focussed now?....and she's still young and does not allow all the distractions of being model (I mean 'beauty' types, and, she's not too bothered with all the younger 'teenage' problems like boyfriends, night clubbing, drugs and so on to bother the younger ones like Maria, Ivanovic, Sania, & even the William sisters - relatively)
One other uncontrollable factor that may hit her and all others is of course INJURIES....if that comes along it'll be one of those things lor?!....and can happen to ANYONE

It'll be hard for everyone to defend their titles next year, not only for Justine. But you know, lately she's been playing very well, like in US Open for example, she beat both Williams Sister & won super-easily over Kuznetsova in the final. I mean, not everyone can do that. She's something special, and I agree that she's just like Federer in the men's game. And now I think she's super-focused, and I believe what's important for her is not to defend her titles, but to play her best tennis and enjoy it.

I don't think Henis worries about defending her titles. If a player is so worried about having to defend a title, they'lll never be in a state of mind to win it in the first place. These are things that fans concern themselves with, not players.
