Star Wars was very original when it came out 30 years ago. The special effects are what really wow'ed people. Nothing like that had been achieved before.
Star Wars was really the birth of modern movies. People who enjoy the films like Lord of the Rings, Spiderman, Transformers, etc can all thank George Lucas for his creativity and push to use technology in films.
While the story line of Star Wars was very basic, here is a small farm boy who turns hero, the plot twists I think are what kept people into it. Who knew Vadar was Lukes dad, Leia and Luke were siblings, Han Solo actually did have a heart and cared.
There hasn't been any movies that have captured this or became the next level of visual effects. Lord of the Rings, was based off books, so there was a story written already, but I would have to say this is the closest thing to Star Wars in terms of creativity. Peter Jackson used a lot of visual creativity to bring the books to life, but he didn't re-invent special effects like Lucas did.
The movie that maybe the closet in terms of new special effects would be Transformers. Creating robots who transform from Cars, Trucks, military vehicles took a lot of creativity and new ways to use current technology. Since its been a while since you seen a movie think of it like this, how many pieces would have to move in order to make the car you drive turn into a 20' tall robot.
While there are a lot of movies out that I thought were good and of course people will disagree, I think you should start off with the Lord of the Rings Trilogy, The new Star Wars trilogy, Transformers, Pirates of the Caribean Trilogy to name a few. Also consider movies like Shrek or Ice Age which are created entirely with computers

I would start researching some indy and foreign films if I were you. The stuff cranked out by Hollywood these days is usually not that good. Too many producers who think that a movie made almost entirely out of special effects is what the audience wants. There are many movies where the special effects are figured out first and then they develop some sort of story around them. Also, there are the accountants. The bean counters who tell the movie makers that a movie needs so many explosions or chase scenes before it can be considered successful.
Not all Hollywood movies are like this, but too many of them are. What is interesting is to find some indy gem that not many people know of and enjoy it.

First as a results of fact Lucas parent episodes 4-6 might sell extra ideal so he made them first additionally keep in mind there became a 20 year hollow between the makeing of episode 4 and a million. Now keep in mind how episode 3 ended, the jedi are all yet extinct, the galaxy is below the guideline of the empire, its a terrable thank you to go away a chain for extremely almost 20 years. And in 1977 they did not have the technologies to make episodes a million-3, think of roughly it an entire military of droids marching on a protection rigidity of gungans, they only could not try this with nonetheless animation.

Unfortunately the answer is probably no, all these movies today are basically the same thing. I'm not even a star wars fan in the least bit, but I can tell you that it's more creative than this garbage these days.

well right now there is the musical "Across the Universe" I haven't seen it, but it is very creative.
If you want an adventure like that, Lord of the rings is good, also the super hero movies, the good ones, are pretty creative (but that.... yeah)
But yes, there are some movies that are very creative and out there.
If you like the beatles, go check out "Across the Universe" and see if you like it.
