Okay, I am doing this COOL play, not a school play, and i got five lines in this one scene as the main character. i only have 13 lines besides that, and we are only doing 3 scenes. And the girl that got 13 scenes as the main character is not even paying attention. HELP!!

There's not much you can do about someone else not making the same committment as you to the show, BUT you can smooth talk her a bit and get her to run lines with you for your scenes. I highly suggest you do not bad talk her to anyone. Maybe if other castmates se you two running lines and are having the same issues with her, they will pick up on your cue and ask her to do the same with them. I would do something like, "Hey, I'm having a bit of trouble with that scene we're in and you seem to handle it well. Would you mind if we stayed (or met early) and worked on it for a while, it would REALLY help me out.)" I'm sure you're a charming guy, you can pull it off, right? ;-) Just fumble a bit the first couple times through then help her along if you need to and tell her, see I'm glad we're doing this to work the kinks out! Maybe we should do it again to make sure we're solid. What do you say? You could always ask the director to be there as well or the assistant director just to back you up on stage direction notes, etc. If she really wasn't paying attention then that's where she'll fumble the most.

Just think of it as an acting exercise for you to finagle this whole thing. Yeah it sucks, but hopefully the end result will be worth it!

good luck!!!

It probably sounds like a cliche' that Its not the "quantity" but the "quality" that is important... but this is what it is.. whatever part you have got just make the most of it.... And hopefully next time ..based on your performance you will get a detailed main character role to play .. Hope you enjoy and have fun with what you are doing ....
Best of Luck

Tell whoever is directing the play in an anonymous note, and they will watch what she is doing. I know - it's not fair, but if you tell someone you may be able to get the parts or they will be given to someone that cares enough about acting.
