a little of both, battle of Acre was not his finest moment. He was a military mastermind and behaved ruthlessly to his enemies He was revered by his most worthy rival, Saladin who also slaughtered civilians, but it goes with the territory war is war civilians get killed it happened then and it happens now and king Richard was a hero and one of the greatest kings of England who is remembered by reputation

he did receive a hero's welcome upon his return to England and is still known as one of England's greatest warrior kings he may well of been the absent king so what, the man was a hero in the eyes of the english

To reply to Luke3... No Richard was not a hero in England. The people never knew the man; he only spent six months in England. England was nothing more than revenue collecting point for his wars with Saladin.
