When I fetched the parking ticket from the machine today I walked back to what I thought was our car, held the ticket out and said. " Which end shall we start then?" Only to be faced with a complete stranger staring at me as if I was mad, I'd walked to the car parked next to ours by mistake!
Goodness knows what the man thought, I was only meaning should we go to the right end of the town or the left first!
Of course Mr D had to tell the man, he was welcome to take me up on my offer! lmao x

That's not an age thing! I had my eyes tested about 5 years ago. (My health insurance only pays once in five years for specs.)

I've never had my brain tested, but I do use it every day. I sometimes go into a room and ask myself what I was looking for, but I did that as a child.

As for parked cars, I remember, when I had a jeep with uncomfortable rear seats, I hired a car to pick up my parents from the airport. When I got back there were two identical Budget hire cars parked side by side. The registration number was on the key ring, but for a moment I said to myself, 'Oh, sh**, which is mine?'

And then there was time when I went to our village shop. I went back to the car. 'I'm sure I locked it,' I thought, but got in. There was a kilo of sausages on the passenger seat. No, I hadn't bought any sausages. I then realised that I had got into my neighbour's car, same colour, same make, same model.
Don't worry about it, I was only 40 at the time.

I dont know how old you are,but some elderly motorist frighten me,and I've been driving for over 40 years.
I seriously believe all people before they reach that stage in life should have a compulsory eye test, better still a fast re action test, how many cars do we see going along our roads with the brake light coming on,at 20-30mph on a 60 pmh limit.
I often wonder if they can even see the end of the bonnet, let alone the road ahead

Funnily enough I had a brain scan a few months ago,I was having dizzy spells and was feeling really tired but luckily they found one and it is working fine,it turned out my blood pressure was dropping too quickly but I'm OK now on my medication.I had my eyes tested at the same time.
I did try to open an identical car to mine once and it was only when I noticed a baby seat in the back that I realised it wasn't mine!

Had my bi-annual, free, eye test last month and decided to blow more of the kids inheritance by having some snazzy new "gold" frames (designer!).
I believe that next year, I get to have my free eye test annually.
Don't think I want to have my brain tested - it would give 'im indoors another reason to say "I told you so"
I've done similar things in multi-storey car parks. Leave the car - go shopping - come back and the car has been "stolen"; go into a state of complete panic and then discover I'm on the wrong floor!

I had my eyes tested a few mts ago, after getting the wrong prescription the 1st time and not much better luck the next 2 tries, I gave up. I see fine at a distance, but still have to take my glasses off when I read/write. It's been a few yrs on the brain, I was diagnosed then with 'atypical' migraines. I always knew there was nothing typical in my head. lol

Your story reminds me of when my great-grandma when to the store with Mom. Mom was paying and Maw came out first. When Mom got to the car, it was empty. She looked around and there sat Maw in the wrong car, but at least it was a red one too. lol

I need my eyes tested, today I put on my glasses and thought things looked a bit odd, after about half an hour I discovered that one lens had fallen out and I had been seeing through an open space. As for my brain I went in the butchers and bought a piece of rolled beef, then went into the Co-oP next door to buy a loaf of bread and ended up putting the parcel of beef on the bread shelf and walking off to the till, luckily the cashier had noticed and said have you forgotten something?

Oh we've all done things like that, I've gone up to a complete stranger before convinced it was someone I knew and started saying 'hi! how's the ....' whatever it was I'd been talking to them about the last time I saw them and had the person turn round and give me such a strange look! You are not alone in being a bit absent minded sometimes!

And as you've categorized this question in the 'Senior Citizens' section I'd just like to say i'm in my 30's so I really don't have any excuse!

When you can't find your car in the parking lot and report it stolen, and the police come, only to find it 2 hours later, when the parking lot has emptied. I immediately started doing IQ tests. As for my eyes, I had an eye test, in Australia (Melbourne), the optometrist said. "you are legally blind". NOW had never heard this expression before,! So I asked him what he mean. And he said that I could not drive.. I told him I wore contact lenses, that gave me perfect vision! So what was the problem? I am still trying to figure that out. And as for my brain. I am not letting anyone test it after the eye test. Am I stupid or what!

Last year I parked my car, went & done what I had to do. On returning to the car, I found that my keys wouldn't open the door. I started to panic a little wondering what was wrong. Then after a few minutes I realised that the car I was trying to open, was the same make & model only slightly lighter in colour & mine was in the next space. I got in my car very embarrassed & drove away.

We try to park our car in the same area in Tescos carpark every time we go out so we don't have that problem but it's not totally foolproof! We have our car on the Motability scheme and we get a new car every 3 years....it takes a couple of weeks to get used to the new one especially if it's a different colour! Sometimes Bj has been known to do what you did but inside a shop especially if I've wandered off and she's not noticed! Seeing a complete strangers face as she's, merrily, adding shopping to their trolley is quite a treat lol. Hmm! He's not totally immune to that sort of behaviour either! I remember him taking a bunch of bananas out of a trolley because he thought there were "Special Offers" in it....the lady whose trolley it was was not amused!
