It was the imagination of a mind about to go to sleep and it freaked you out. Nothing unusual.
The vast majority of paranormal/ghost reports on Yahoo Answers seem to involve either going to sleep, sleeping, or waking up from sleep. There's a good reason for that.

Many times, just before sleep, as your body relaxes and your mind begins to slip from conciousness, the images of the day will run through your head. If you are still partially concious, you will recognize images that you may have seen on the street, on TV, in video games, or even just things that you imagined during the day. This happens to everybody, but most people are not concious enough to recognize the images or remember them.
It sounds to me like this is what happenned to you since you said that it appeared "to my mind". It is not unusual for sounds to accompany these images.
Through sleep, your mind works to make sense of the input that it has recieved during the day. It takes the images, sounds, feelings, etc., and tries to organize the information so that it can be related to other information in the mind and retrieved more easily the next time that it is needed. This process sometimes involves your mind creating scenarios to see if your "new images and information" will "work" in this scenario. This process can be percieved as dreaming, or in your case, a nightmare.
Unless this image continues to appear or if these types of events happen to you on a regular basis and begin to bother you, I would consider it either a daydream or nightmare. If the experience continues, post a followup question.

I don't have any ideas about what happened to you, except I don't think it sounds paranormal. Sometimes when I am really, really, incredibly exhausted, I will see something like a really quick slide show of bloody images in my mind when I close my eyes to go to sleep. It concerns me, because I'm not the kind of person who thinks of such things consciously or has thoughts like that. I wish I knew why it is bloody, horrific images that I see. Why can't it be something pleasant?

You were falling asleep. The mind does funny things when it's not occupied with regular tasks.

I saw a man without a shirt in a coffin..it seemed like a movie on a movie screen. It was SO VIVID and REAL LOOKING. I didn't want to look..but a strong thought kept saying for me to look. I looked...Then it disappeared. About a year later I saw a person who looked like the one in the coffin. He was alive. I don't know what this means. Doubt anyone knows. Of course some people will say I dreamed or imagined it or made it up. Guess they say this so they can get their 2 points.

It's amazing how many of these manifestations occur around bedtime. An equal amount occur around wake up time.I'm beginning to suspect it's more then coincidence.
