I was grazing through the Bonds topics and saw so many people saying "Bonds never tested positive so he didnt take steroids"
Well guy reality check #1. Your logic is flawed. I can smoke weed everyday but if I dont test positive does that mean I dont smoke weed? NO
#2 Barry Bonds did test positive and blamed it on some teammate of his saying he didnt know.... AGAIN.
http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2007/01/12/SPGI3NHGKQ1.DTL
Now blaming your wrongdoings on others may work for children but Barry Bonds is not a 3 year old girl. He is responsible for his own actions.
This is twice that he has said he didnt know they were steroids when someone gave them to him.
Now that thats off my chest I am still wondering why some many comment on this subject without doing some background research 1st? It really amazes me.
So all in all my question is now that all of you who say Bonds never tested positive can see that he did test positive, does this change your outlook?

To Kris about the amphetamines/ speed.
It's a performance enhancing drug and using it is considered CHEATING as is steroids.
Granted steroids will probably have a stronger effect on the player it's still a drug.
My logic is not flawed, linking drugs is very common in society.
Also while Bonds/steroids is the subject, let me stress the BALCO raid which is very important in recent MLB history.
Quoting ESPN.com
"BALCO tracked Bonds' usage with doping calendars and folders -- detailing drugs, quantities, intervals and Bonds' testosterone levels -- that wound up in the hands of federal agents upon their Sept. 3, 2003 raid of the Burlingame, Calif., business."
Just because he's not proven guilty in court means nothing. OJ Simpson lives a free man while we all know he 's guilty of murder.
The same goes for Bonds, or wait.... you guys are saying it's some kind of coinsidence that Bonds just seems to find himself connected with performance enhancing drugs all the time.
THX for good comments

To Frizzer you should also get it right if you want to comment. 90% of players using amphetamines is incorrect. More like 40-50%. Sweeney and his agent denied that he gave Bonds anything. Bonds later apologized thus catching himself in a lie.
Thank you for the comment

The point of the question is why do so many people defend Bonds when clear evidence is there that he's a cheater.

You're right, he tested positive for amphetamines.
But like you say, YOUR logic is flawed also.
So because he tested positive for amphetamines, it means he used steroids? Do you know what amphetamines are?
That's like saying, because someone tested positive for weed, they do cocaine too.
You're linking two unrelated things, and using it as proof. You're way off base.
EDIT: I cheated on a test in 8th grade, algebra if my memory serves me right, so I'm guilty of cheating, no matter what the charges are?
What you said was - I was grazing through the Bonds topics and saw so many people saying "Bonds never tested positive so he didnt take steroids".
Those people are correct, he never tested positive for STEROIDS. If you want to throw everyone out that's done ANY kind of cheating, you'd need to wipe alot of the Hall of Fame out. Not all cheating is equal.
btw, amphetamines and steroids have COMPLETELY different effects on the body. They're apples and oranges - can't compare the two.

This is not a new story about Bonds since it occurred months ago. If you are going to resurrect a story you should at least get it right. This event did not involve steroids, as you claim, it involved prescription amphetamines which is not a steroid. The use of amphetamines has been wide spread in sports over the years with an estimated 90% of professional athletes admitting using them, primarily to stay awake while traveling. Unlike most of the other drugs on the banned substance list this drug did not make the list until last year and does not carry a suspension when testing positive. It is so insignificant that the drug testing contractor is not even obligated to notify the players team as a result of a possitive test. The only reason this story came out at all is because Bonds himself mentioned it. You can bet that many other players in MLB have tested positive for amphetamines and have received the same warning as Bonds. Also, Bonds never did say he didn't know what he was taking, he said he took it out of Mark Sweeney's locker, his teammate, which Sweeney has never denied. Bonds is a jerk and this is just another example why he is disliked by his own teammates. Thank you for letting him know I was coming Diane.
EDIT:
Look at my words above, 90% of professional athletes have admitted using this drug when it was legal, not now. Also, I have read articles indicating 40% to 50% of kids under the age of 12 say they have used this drug. The real issue is that studies show that amphetamines do not enhance performance (see attached web site), so what is your point with this questions.

Wrong! He NEVER tested positive for any kind of steroid. He said he was misquoted or mistaken (I forget which) in that article where he supposedly blamed someone else for something, and that had nothing to do with steroids. You obviously didn't even read that article, or simply can't understand it. Speaking of doing no background research, you are very guilty of that. It amazes me. Bonds has not tested positive for any kind of performance-enhancing drug or steroids. Does that change your outlook?
Find a baseball player who HASN'T taken amphetamines. That would be a lot harder than pointing out the ones who have.
Now where is your evidence that Bonds has ever cheated? If there was some drug that makes you as great as he is, why is it that no other player is or was as good as him? Marvin Benard and Bobby Estalella were connected to Balco, too.
How many HR's do they have? Where are they now?
Try to do some research and get some FACTS before you ask questions and then don't like the answers just because they prove you wrong.

Yes, he took steroids, and yes he knew what he was taking.
As long as there's been competitive sports, there's been cheating and athletes trying to get an edge.
Remember Sammy Sosa's corked bat? Do we revoke his single-season HR record?
Not all athletes are cheaters, and it would be hard to accurately say how many are. But it's part of the game, and we should honor his achievements. Besides, the steroids didn't improve his hand-eye coordination or help him connect with the ball - they just helped the ball travel farther when he did.

I agree 100%. If Bonds hadn't taken any steroids, then what's the purpose of his personal trainer rotting in jail to keep from testifying before a grand jury? If the guy has nothing to hide, then there's no reason for him to refuse to testify about Bonds alleged steroid use. So you can only come to 2 conclusions, #1 - Bonds used steroids and this guy knows all about it or #2 - he really likes being Bubba's ***** in the joint. Somehow, I'm pretty sure it's #1.

I hate Bonds, he is nothing but a no good dirty rotten scoundral who was able to beat the system. They could never prove if he was using the roids, but there was evidence. I bet you he coulda done it without taking roids, but he still beat Hank Aaron, a record meant to be broken by someone not on roids. Screw Bonds, I say this as a Boston and Met fan, GO A-ROD, BEAT THE RECORD!

he tested positive for some type of amphetamine and blamed a team mate for giving it to him. he admitted in grand jury testimony that he used the "clear" (same designer steroid Marion Jones lied about) but said he was not aware that the clear was a steroid. however, this jerk knows what he puts in his body so I suspect that he is a liar.

Bonds is guilty, he is a cheat, and deserves the blame, we all accept that. The big question is what do we do about it? He has left the record books meaningless, and baseball is permanently damaged as a result.

Nothing you can say, nor any proof from any article, will change people's opinions if they're a fan of Bonds. Those who like him refuse to believe he cheated at the game. They refuse to believe his record is tainted. Obviously the guy did it. Even his biggest fans know deep down in their hearts that he did it, but you'll never get them to admit it.
I know one person who's going to come back and argue your point. Be prepared.

I hate Bonds whether took steroids or not. He blames all his attitude and failures on everybody else. You know what they say, if you blame somebody else for your failures, do you credit them for your achievements?
