everyone always thinks it won't happen to them, and yet it does, why look at those poor Amish girls last year in PA. What steps are you willing to do to protect your community and children? If you thought your kid was in danger, would you pull them out of school?

EDIT: I find it very interesting that some of you believed I was being an alarmist when in fact, all I asked was if you felt your school or kids' school was safe. Some of your attitudes are astounding in that you think your kid should just have to DEAL with it instead of activating your parental and constitutional rights to try to improve your community and society. And people wonder why Americans are perceived as people who don't care! You'd rather send your kid to a school thats unsafe than actually try to make a difference or try to make safer because (the logic is beautiful) it's a big bad world and they have to learn to live in it? Why not learn to change it?

Danger is a part of life. Your child could be walking into the grocery store and stumble into a robbery. It is more likely that would happen than for them to be involved in a school shooting. That doesn't mean you're going to stop sending them down the street for the bread you forgot last night.
I do not believe the schools in my area do enough to protect our children. They have one adult at the front door at the high school. OOOO big whoop. So that guy is the first person the kid takes out. There is no one watching the doors at the middle schools. Will I pull my kids? No. My kids are safer in school than they are in the car with me.

Well it's pretty obvious that the schools aren't safe. If they're putting metal detectors in elementary schools there is something wrong somewhere!
You could pull your kid out of school but then you couldn't put them in another school because that one wouldn't be safe either so you would have to stay home and prove that you could be a home schooler and have them around the house with you all day.
Not the brightest idea either, then they become more anit-social than they already are and really not able to make it in the big, bad world when it came time.

well answer this question on my behalf being an high school graduate i would think that my school is safe because we have several deputies and teachers that are willing to listen to students about there problems. Some student are pressured to do or act a certain way that they are not comfortable with . I personally think that my school is safe for the simple fact that the teachers would tolerate such behavior .

Really, when you take the risk of leaving your house in the morning, you're taking the risk of running into trouble. It just happens that kids are at school most of their day, for five days a week. But who's to say school is any more dangerous than anywhere else they might go? A shooting can occur basically anywhere. I don't think its worth it to miss out on all the high school experiences out of fear of being shot.

I think that I am safe. I attend a very conservative Catholic high school. However, our 'lockdown'/code red policies are mediocre--all we do is sit silently in our seats, which just happen to be right next to a large window and then a window into the hall. Plus, the doors do not lock. If something was to happen, we would be in trouble, but I think that we're safe nonetheless.

No I do not. Kids are starting to know how to hide things better then before and that's is a big no. However schools are adding metal detectors, cameras, and making electronic doors to help keep kids safe. It is also cutting into kids privacy rights and they feel like prisoners couple of kids anyway.

I think there as safe as they can be. I don't believe that there's any school that's really safe we just have the hope those kind of things don't happen and are well prevented. Yes i would take my child out if it thought they were in danger.
thanks for asking that question.

I honestly don't think my school is gonna end up in a school shooting. But ever since V.A. Tech(God Bless Them) theres been a few copy cats. I think people saw Cho do it and are like "hey I can do that too!" So I'm constantly prepared for something like that to happen though I doubt it ever will to me.

many yrs ago i had the chance of meeting president of nra. he is a powerful person - the gun lobby in congress is too strong to hv any effective gun laws. he said that there is nothing wrong with the gun - its the person holding it. hence society has to tackle that problem and it has nothing to do with gun control.
you dont hear such things in germany, france, uk, japan, sweden, norway, denmark, holland or other advanced countries. are these nations enjoying lesser freedom than americans? r they deprived of certain things like owning a gun? so we really hv to think hard and the silent majority has to be more vocal. my kids dont feel safe! and i dont too!

A generation ago, I wouldn't have dreamt of it, but now, I'm not so sure. My kids are grown, and the grandkids have been homeschooled. Therefore, this doesn't directly affect me, however, if I had kids in school now, I would definitely think of taking them out and homeschooling them myself.
