Like some cars from the 40's and 50's have a handle on the column like many automatic cars from our time have but they have a clutch peddle on the floor....do you drive it like you would a standard only you press the clutch then shift with the handle on the column???

"3 on the tree" is right. I loved my 1969 ford truck. It was a blast to drive.
Towards you & up is reverse
Towards you & down is first
Away from you & up is second
Away from you & down is third

Once you get it down, you'll enjoy it. At least I did.

Yes, just as you say, you push the clutch in and shift with the steering column lever. Usually, pull back on the lever and all the way down to get to first gear. Pull back and push up for reverse. Up and out is second gear and then down straight is the final drive gear. What memories when I learned to drive 45 years ago!

They're a little sloppy, and old school. But they're pretty simple.

Oh, .....Yup. Shift it like a stick shift. Just sideways......
