I have a 5.5 hp engine but I need the gear thingy that goes on the end of the shaft there, what is it called? I tried looking for it on Ebay but cant find any results under clutches or gears.

I think you will find that you have a 3/4" shaft and yes, the standard for MANY years was the centrifugal clutch. But there is a new kid in town that I put on my kid's go karts.

A centrifugal clutch is a clutch that operates automatically via rotational motion rather than lateral.

Your engine probably has a 5/8th" keyed shaft.
To make sure of the shaft size, slide an open end wrench over it.

Also, make sure you get the right chain pitch (size) on your clutch.
On the side of the chain it will have a number. Match that number to the sprocket pitch. Otherwise, it won't fit right.

You want a centrifugal clutch. The place I'd look at if I were you is northern tool. They sell a wide variety of go-kart parts. It's cheap stuff, though, not like something you'd put on some racing kart.
