Wow, I was reading the answers here and they were very eye-opening. I have no children, am 26 and married, but it really gave me insight into wht my parents probably think. Because while my mother said she was so said when we all left home, I now know that she was probably dancing around naked! LOL. That makes me feel happy to know that my parents feel like they can be more of themselves with us gone. Never had I thought about that and it is a very cool feeling.

I have two sons, 21 and 19. Both are away at school.

I find my wife and I get along SOOOO much better when they are not here.
I miss them both and talk to them a couple times a week but the benefit of getting along far outweighs their being here.

I'm not sure pleased is the correct term but there are benefits to the "empty nest". If nothing else the refrigerator stays full longer without teenage boys at home.

My children after the age of eighteen were still entitled to live at home under one single rule. Further your education! If not then pack your bags. Find a minimum wage job and face the real World on your own.

I'm a single Mom of a 13yr old son and yes there are times when I can't wait for him to leave home. But that being said I will be sad when he goes off to college

You want honesty...well heck ya I was pleased when they flew the nest. My wife and I have more money than we know what to do with now. Also it is great to see the kids do things on their own...it lets me know we did okay as parents!

I am glad.
I like the house quiet.
I feel like I have gained the identity I lost when I became "Dad".
I have started painting again and me and the wife are getting on better than ever.
I love my kids, but I love myself more.

Yes, I will be pleased. I will be glad to get my life, my energy, my finances, and my space back, and see what life has to offer me for the next few decades, see what Im going to turn out to be!

I love my kids, and I will be glad to see them out there on their own, making something of themselves. I'll be doing the same, finally!

They have flown the nest, but they are still very much in our lives and we love it and our grandchildren too. Family is the best.
