I am currently in school working towards a bachelors in Psychology with a minor in Sociology. I am not exactly sure what line of work I want (or can) get into though. Does anyone know what kind of career opportunities are out there for someone with a bachelors degree in Psychology?

Okay - so after reading some of the other answers about not being able to find a job in the field unless you have a masters, I'm inclined to tell you that - yes, a masters is helpful. However, there are plenty of jobs that keep you in the field without having a masters. You didn't specifically state that you want a job doing counseling or anything else specific. You can work on a mental health wing, you can work in an MHI (mental health institute), you can work with juvenile delinquents (one of the favorite jobs I've had), you can work in residential care facilities for people with mental illness (a fantastic learning experience), etc.

There are tons of things available for people without their masters. My degree is a double in psych and criminal justice and I have worked in the field for 8 years.

Later on, you may decide that you do want to get your masters - and decide what area you want it in. You'd probably make more money with it - but it’s definitely not a necessity right now!

Also - it’s a good idea to try and work in the field while you are getting your masters if that’s the route you choose to take. It’s easier to find a job after you have had experience. I have a friend who really struggled because she went to school straight through without gaining any real experience and I (with my lowly little BA) have been able to find jobs more easily because of my experience.

Good Luck! Don't be discouraged! Go into something you love!

This is the degree our office receptionist has. I double majored in Psych and social work because you couldnt get a job in the field of Psychology with less than a doctorate. I was able to get licensing to do counseling with only a masters in social work.

My degrees are the other way around, and I am a case manager of over 60 files of children with special needs. If you live in California you can apply at the local Regional Center.
