We bought an old house and all the pipes are copper. Supply, drains, and the sewer line. The inspector joked that we could pay off our mortgage will all the copper.... I know that's an exaggeration, but have heard of copper thefts on the news.... The sewer line is about 40 ft long and 6 inched in diameter, would it be cost effective to replace this and sell the copper?

Copper is at about $3.70 a pound right now. So, let's say that pipe is about 10 pounds per foot (I don't know, but let's just say). That's just under $40 per foot X 40 feet. That comes to $1600.

The cost of replacing the sewer pipe would probably cost less than that. But, what's the point?

There sure is. Scrap copper is worth so much I can't leave wire on the job site. And people are stealing the wire off poles. It will be well worth your time and effort to sell the copper.

YES there is. A good one. My husband is an electrician and he gets 2-4 dollars a pound for bright copper. Call a local metal scrap yard and ask for their list on copper prices. You will be amazed!!!

Yes there is. It is so valuable people are stealing it off of buildings and out of supply houses.

There was one fool who was killed trying to scrap wire off of a live circuit that was brought down by a storm.

Keep it hidden or it may disappear.
