Alfred Nobel invented dynamite and then came up with the awards as a way to try to make up for doing do. Legend has it that he read a prematurely printed obituary for himself that said his legacy would be as a spreader of death, so he wanted to do something to change that.

To those below: Nobel did invent dynamite, he patented it in 1867. TNT is different, and was first made by Joseph Wilbrand.

First,to "Libs are Stupid" that was just plain rude,if you're having a bad day, turn the computer off and go for a walk or something.
To the asker:
Answers concerning dynamite are correct.Alfred Nobel devised a way to combine nitro-glycerin with diatomaceous earth (which acts as a stabilizer) and wrap the clay like combination in a paper tube.Prior to his process, nitro was the cause of thousands of accidents due to premature detonation.
With the millions he received,he established first the "Nobel Peace Prize" to recognize those people who promoted peace so that his invention would not be used in war.

Nobel invented dynamite, and Wilbrand was famous for discovering the two-step process of nitration of a yellowish dye(Toluene), to produce the tri-substituted benzene called 2-Methyl-1,3,5-trinitrobenzene(TNT).

Dynamite isn't TNT, it is actually an absorbant soaked in nitroglycerin.

And no, Dynamite is obsolete, replaced by Tovex, with exception of the very few, that may still use it, if there are any around that do.

Nobel came up with the idea of TnT and blasting caps.

Before that folks used nitro but because it was so unstable many people got killed just trying to get the stuff where it was needed.

Oppenheimer did say he was a Destroyer of worlds......

He invented dynamite, and realized the destructive nature of it, and so established a prize for those who work toward the good, and peace of their fellow man.

He invented Dynamite and it was thought to be so powerful that he felt he had to do something more peaceable. Now the prizes have become so politicised that they give them to anti-semetics and terrorists (Carter & Arafat) so they have no meaning anymore.

TNT. His inventions are used everyday in blasting operations. Without either of these men your computer wouldn't be running.
