There is no special care necessary to keep monkey grass living over the winter. It's nearly impossible to kill the stuff and it will spread like crazy from year to year once it's established. You might want to remove the old, frostbitten tops from last year for a neater appearance. I usually do this in late winter or very early spring.

Depending on where you live, it may turn pale due to cold damage during the winter. To curtail this, be sure to keep your monkey grass barely moist during the winter, and to cut it back aggressively toward the end of the winter season.
You might also consider applying a leaf mulch in the fall.

in the winter or early spring take the weed-eater to it and cut all the old off. Monkey grass sprouts from the ground each time and it looks much better when you remove the old tops

Hey, don't know what zone you live in, but there is no special care for it in the winter........The little greenish seeds on it will produce .......I cut the tops off mine in early spring for the new growth,,,,,,,,Good Luck....

Trim it back to the ground once cool weather starts. My experience is that you can't kill it.
