I couldn't agree more. I do notice Conservatives/Republicans doing the same thing sometimes, but it does seem like the Liberals are causing the polarization. They just don't care about facts. They would rather make people mad than make people understand.
I answered a question earlier today when someone asked if a Republican could ever win the Nobel Peace Prize. I said that Henry Kissinger won in 1974 and MLK won in 1964, and both were Republican. I cited reputable sources, yet I still get thumbs down.

I don't understand why the truth would lead to hateful reviews. I guess they only care about Inconvenient Truths that support their beliefs.
What's worse is that the Inconvenient Truths that support their beliefs are, for the most part, Convenient Untruths.
Liberals have found that if they scream and whine and moan they get noticed, and that is all they really want- Attention.
In actuality, most Liberals are just pathologically inadequate, and would rather recieve an angry response than no retort at all. Misery loves company.
Pew Research Center, a non-profit study group, has shown that Democrats are statistically less happy than Republicans, regardless of income, race, religion, liberalism/conservatism, or the political party in power.

My suggestion is that we stop giving them what they want. When a Liberal makes a biased, hateful comment or question, don't even bother trying to explain to them where they are wrong. Just ignore them. Don't give them the attention for which they are starving.
They don't care if they are wrong. They just want reactions. It is sadly pitiful that they would turn their personal dissatisfaction with their own lives into an attack on those of us who are happy, and those of us who succeed.
Yes, sometimes we all have issues and don't handle ourselves appropriately. Most of us just don't go around screaming at the world for our own shortcomings.
I have this firm belief that anyone who has the exact same beliefs as any political party has stopped thinking for themselves. They have decided to represent a party instead of representing their beliefs. I hold this truth to be self-evident.
To say the least, it is extrememly unlikely that anyone with well-examined beliefs would happen to be 100% consistent with a partisan philosophy. Most Republicans understand this.
Democrats claim to be the open-minded party but in actuality, MOST of them are just puppets who have found that if they snivel and moan, they find other snivelers and moaners who are exactly like them. So they feel, finally, like they belong.
So, let them rant and rave. Maybe when they see that negativity will lead to isolation, they will stop acting like children who deserve a "time-out".
Don't let them get you down. That is what they want. Just keep moving forward because that is the right thing to do. The real thinkers, like us, have more pressing issues to worry about than a few Liberals' personal meltdowns.

I've only noticed a few nasty responses from the progressive side, and about the same ratio from the conservative side. Perhaps I'm wrong, but it seems your question is an attempt to make Liberals and Democrats angry so they'll prove your point. Sorry, I won't take the bait anymore.
On TV and radio, it seems there are few who are interested in presenting the news, but most prefer to showing the arguments between opposing sides. So as a result, it is only the most vicious who get air time.

People are extremely passionate about their political beliefs and will prove that point no matter who gets stepped on. Unfortunately, when there is no safe or respectful place to express political opinions, people resort to schoolyard tactics. Living in the Bay Area, I see a lot of this... people are so "tolerant" that they are really closed-minded jerks who are so morally self righteous that they don't even realize it. I've met more conservatives who are peaceful and accepting than I have liberals and democrats.

Name calling on either side is and always will be unacceptable! We may probably never resolve our differences. Hopefully we do agree that we do live in a great nation, and we would like to keep it that way.
Here's where the rub comes in:
Some of us on one side believes the other side is out to destroy our principles, the constitution and the bill of rights; along with our freedoms. Some want smaller government, and opportunities to grow and be empowered instead of exploited with a heavy tax burden. This side believes in capitalism, free enterprise and healthy competition, and a strong economy.
The other side side wants big government control, with the government in everyones lives making their decisions for them. "progressive," socialism.

It has been pointed out by many thinking people that liberalism has become its own kind of religious movement. Concequently, its zealots will brook no disagreement. There is great danger in feeling that you are the only one's right. It brings on allusions of power and promotes intolerance. Pure and simple, it shows fear.

I am a democrat and I do my best to keep my opinions to myself. But I am not just going to sit idly by when someone makes an uncalled for remark about the GOP or its affiliations.

I have noticed this too and yet they still blame the conservatives for doing it. Yahoo is very far left, you can tell by the way they won't let people write the "N" word but they have no problem with others calling people "white trash" and cracker" but they are both on the same level of racist remarks..

For the same reasons conservatives/republicans act hatefully. Turn the other cheek instead of responding in kind, eh?
