Old early '80s Tappan brand plain-Jane no-frills residential gas stove (jets converted for propane when bought 20 yrs ago). Now I turn the valve/knob on for the left front burner & gas spews out but never lights. Put a lit match to it & it fires up just fine & operates normally from there. Must do this every time now. Left-rear (from same pilot light) works fine. Same for both right-side burners; they're OK too. Only the left front has the problem. Never a sign of weak flame before demise. Just suddenlt went ka-put. Worked great last time I used it (2 days ago). Went back a few hours later to make dinner & nothing. never any other problems.
Any ideas?

Thanks

Does the burner have a moveable metal cap over it? If so, this cap is designed to disperse the gas properly for lighting and burning. If it's not seated properly, the burner won't light.

If it does have a cap, try moving it around a bit until it seats correctly and try again.

Otherwise, your pilot might be a bit clogged or out of position to correctly light the gas.

Another possibility is that the gas is coming out in so much volume that it doesn't allow enough oxygen near the pilot to ignite the gas. Try turning the burner on at a lower setting and see if the flame ignites.

Make sure it is lined up properly, and there are no dirt or grease blockages at all. You don't want to play around with gas. Sounds like you've gotten your money's worth out of it. You may want to start checking for one on sale. It could be that time.

There is a metal tube between the pilot and each burner. Check that the left front tube is not obstructed and that it is properly installed. Compare it to the other tubes to see how to install it.
