I need help deciding what to name baby boy #2. Our first son is Alexander (and we call him that, not Alex, at least not yet), so I'd like a name that goes well with that.

The other 2 names that I think sound good are ones I don't want to use - Nicholas, but we already have too many Nick's on DH's side of the family, and Zachary, but our last name starts with a Z, so it would be too many Z's!

So I narrowed it down to Benjamin or Sebastian. I think I like Sebastian more, but I don't like how it doesn't have a short form - although since we call Alexander by his full name right now, it may not matter. I don't like the name Benjamin as much (and really don't like Benji), but Ben is cute.

Or any other suggestions? There are a lot of boys on DH's side of the family, and most of the common names (Christopher, Matthew, Gregory, Andrew, etc.) have been used already, so I'd like something different.

TIA!

I adore Sebastian, and do prefer it to Benjamin. You know, you can use Ben as a nickname here as well, if that's the only issue. Bastian is, after all, the most common shortening, and a contracted form of that would quite literally be Ben (especially assuming you use the se-BAS-chen pronunciation most common in the states). The spelling might seem a stretch, but that would be the actual sounds of the B____an portion.

Besides Bastian and Ben, other traditional nicknames include Bas, Sepi and Seppo. I personally prefer the above-mentioned options, but these are common familiar forms. ;)

Hope that helps!

I like Sebastian. It's quirky, and you can call him Baz, Seb, Bastian, or heck, nickname him Ben! It's close enough, and it's a nickname. Besides, Sebastian Nicholas and Sebastian Zachary both sound pretty cool. Sebastian Milo is on my short list; I just need to convince the fiance that's it's a cool name.

I also like Theodore, Gavin, Corbin, Quinn, Abraham, and Peter; since your style is similar to mine, I'd suggest thinking about those!

Sebastian is one of those names that seems a little odd at first, but it really grows on you... I like it! I don't think there is really a good short form of it, Seb is the only decent nickname I could think of.

I think Alexander goes best with Benjamin, and I do prefer Benjamin over Sebastian. Alexander & Ben sounds adorable. I don't think Alexander & Sebastian go well together, but Sebastian is a cute name :)

Whatever you pick will be perfect! Congratulations!!

I love all the names! They are all on my list for when I have a son! I think I like Sebastian better and a nickname for it could be Ian or Seb(but that doesn't sound quite right, does it?). Some other names you could consider are:
Nathaniel or Nathan
Timothy
Bartholomew
Maximilian
Harrison
Theodore
Thaddeus
Wyatt

Hope these help and congratulations!

P.S. I can't tell you how refreshing it is to see someone who doesn't want to name their child a fad-ish name like Jayden or something!! Thank You!

I personally prefer Sebastian. My Great-Uncle was named Sylvester and went by the nickname Ves. You could do something similar with Sebastian or just pick something completely different.

If you like Ben, just use the name Ben instead of Benjamin.
