harry is wrong about the filiments but right about the problem,,, one filiment for parking light one for brake(also the blinker) one is dim the other is bright, you have a burned out brake filiment, security uses the parking filiment

Bad bulb. Your brake light has two filaments in it, one for the stop lamp, and one for the turn signal (most car alarms flash the turn signal lights, not the brake lights). Sounds like the stop lamp filament has burned out, but not the turn signal filament (this is common). Also, when replacing the bulb, go ahead and replace the other side as well. That way, when it burns out next time, you know the other one is due to be changed as well. This will cut down on the chances of a brake light burning out and having you end up driving around unawares, which is a good way of getting a ticket.

*Edit* Good call about the difference between turn signal/parking lamp, Mr D. Don't know what I was thinking.

The light when you press the secuity key flashes the parking lights,, not the brake lights.

You have a bad brake light.
