Ok, So far the main plot of the story is:
The main character sits opposite her twin sisiter, suddenly the lights go out and something holds her back and parralises her... but theres nobody touching her. When the lights do come back on and she is able to move, her twin sister is hanging infront of her...
Well it goes into a lot more detail but thats the main plot so far... Thanks for all the comments already. Please keep coming with the great answers!

Yes. I have a great idea. This is a website that features actual reported haunting in all 50 states. Check it out - you may find there is one right in your town!! I was shocked to read my former college dorm was listed. It would be cool to add an actual local haunting to your story. Then you could tell your class about it. It would even be cool to visit there on Halloween! Just look up your state.

They're, Their, There - Three Different Words.
Careful or you may wind up in my next novel.

It doesn't have to be some sick death horror story. A good horror story you could write is something with a lot of embarrassment. Imagine the 'horror' of having to sing or dance in front of millions and messing up? There's an idea.

Here're several ideas.
1. A guy's captured into a trivia game where he has to do certain dares. He can't forfeit or they kill him. He has to cut off his own leg, fry it and eat it or he dies. If he wins he gets a million bucks.
2. You could do an infestation story. What living things do you fear most? Spiders? Roaches? Snakes? Mice? ANything you want. Put yourself in that situation and make it as real as you. For instance, a guy with horrible arachnid phobia gets trapped in an old abandoned house with tons of huge spiders. Just giving out ideas.
3. A guy is in a cave and he makes a wrong turn and falls off a 300 foot ledge in the darkness and rocks fall and he's trapped down there. You could go into detail of what it feels like to slowly suffocate alone in the darkness. Now that's a horror story. Thanks for reading.

The beginning should not give anything away. You should introduce the horror in the second paragraph. The ending should be gruesome, ex- someone having their skull hacked in half, but also there should be a bit of mystery or a hint of a cliffhanger in the last few sentences. This helps the reader modify the story in there mind and this gets the best results
.
Also remember; short sentences quicken the story, so use long descriptive sentences to slow it down before an interesting bit. And don't forget about colons etc!! they also help the story flow.

This older girl could then go to discover a hidden mystery in the room where the death happened but if she tells annyone the thing will come back and kill the rest of her family. She goes and tells her best friend who puts her in a mental hospital. Towards the end of the book the girl is now much older and has been discharged from the hospital because her parents have died and they gave her the house in the will. She goes home and that night something makes her go down to the basement. When she arrived at the house there was a padlock on the door but now its gone and the door is ope. The girl walks in and is instantly hit by the same feeling when her sister died. Now she feels happy going into the room. When she enters the light flicks on. There is a ladder up to the beam where her sister hung from. The girl climbs the ladder and ties herself to the rope. Her landlord comes to the basement the next morning because he can t find the girl. When he gets down she is dead, hanging from the beam that her sister had been years ago. She has a smile on her face and her eyes are gone. THE END

I don't know what your short story is, of course, but I think one possible addition might be to add a nightmare someone just can't wake up from... it only becomes more and more real, until...
Or further discovery about what you have already; someone learns that someone else's brother is also involved... things along those lines, adding to what you have.
And check over a few chapters of those horror stories you already know; those of Edgar Allen Poe, the authors who wrote short ones.

Have you read a horror book? Well then, try to use the same ideas or theme. The characters or the setting don't have to be the same but for ex if the book is about serial killers, then you can use that.
