Need help, please guide me "How do i change my Name legally", here on i would like to be called by that name.

Question

I would like to change my name and hereon wud like to be called......I request advocates residing in secunderabad to advice me with latest current procedures. Although i have contacted many different advocates, but all gave me there own different kind of procedures. I am CONFUSED which is the genuine procedure for this name change legally. Also how do i change my name in my PASSPORT...Pleaseeee advice. Need serious answers only.....

Good God! why these Advocates told you different procedures where as the procedure as provided under the Passport Act,1967 & laid down by the Ministry of External Affairs is same for changing name in the passport every where in India. You have to just give a public notice in two newspapers regarding this & attach copies of these two notifications along with this change of name affidavit to get the changes made in your passport with regard to your name. Once this change of name take place in your passport you can use the copy of this amended passport to get name changed anywhere you want.

in my opinion, you have to publish your new name in the government gazette first, you have to give the reason for changing the name.. after publishing in the govt. gazette you have to publish in the local news paper and English national news paper.. along with the govt.gazette copy and the paper cutting you have to apply and inform the state home ministry for their record and you can use the new name... for incorporating new name you have to contact passport office , i think mostly it is not possible for changing the name in pass port . you have to necessarily apply fresh pass port with the new name.. whenever the old name appears in any of the record/certificates you have to show the original govt.gazette copy an press release for having changed your name legally...

better you contact pass port office first and state government printing press in Hyderabad/secunderabad for proceeding further in the matter if you really want the change of name
