If we don't know the meaning of peace how can we expect our children to know it's not OK to take a gun to school?

Does peace have anything at all to do with global warming? Does a kid with a gun mean he's not green?

not sure..jimmy carter got the prize...henry kissinger got the prize...i have a list a mile long...i looked up...NONE i could find actualy were military heroes..and from what i've read all the prizes were given non-war years..1940 to 1945..no nobel prizes...and there were also a few other years the had no awards given...there is no law that says one has to be given every year..but one would think that with all the terrorism and world un-settlement that a nobel peace prize on global-warming would be the last thing to give somebody..the hell with saving the earth if every body is killing everybody..

It now includes efforts that will address maitaining peace or preventing future violence. Gore and his efforts to bring the issue of global warming to the forefront are viewed as vital to making the issue a global concern and putting it on the radar of governments. It is seen as a tool in preventing future wars by the NP committee because as global warming leads to depletion of resources (water, crops, land, fuels) countries will be more inclined to fight to get those resources. The NPP is a forward thinking effort-what are you doing now that will impact future generations-as well as reviewing contributions made in the past that lead to ground breaking in social norms.

The best answer is probably the same for most bad choices: It seemed like a good idea at the time.
For instance, it was given to Yasser Arafat for his work on the ongoing peace process, but nothing ever came of his efforts (yet anyway).

Hitler and Stalin were not very peaceful and would never ddeserve an award. My problem with giving the award to Gore is he just talks about the problem, he does nothing himself to make it better. He has the most energy inefficient house in Tennessee, and the highest pollution private jet on the earth. Should we really reward people who tell us to get better while refusing to do it themselves?
