I'm sorry, but I don't know enough about Gore to speak too ill about him, but I can think of many others in this world that have made REAL impacts on the environment that deserves this prize more then him.
It just seems that now days any idiot can get a "talk show", be a "sports anchor", be on a "reality show" and get a "noble prize"
just my opinion

Lets use our imagination here for just a moment please. We seniors, on this site, like to do that a lot.
Remove Al Gore's name & insert someone else's.
Can be anyone you choose, known or unknown, rich or poor, etc.
Remember! Whomever you choose, is still going to win 1/2 of that Nobel Peace prize for being the one to bring attention, about global warming, to the masses.
Still think there was a fight going on?
In a way there is, so you are half right.
The fight to get, all the knuckle heads of the world, to understand & get our beautiful little orb cleaned up.
Can we stop global warming (no matter its cause)-NO.
Can we make things better? Yes! But we all have to work together-why do I believe that will never happen in my life time!
Remember that one small candle burning in the darkness?

I'm with Alienzol and a couple others here.... Gore didn't do anything that deserves the prize.... it's all old stuff that he just resurected .... the fact is, whether we choose to believe it or not, that Earth goes thru these kinds of changes periodically and life goes on.... how arrogant we are to think that 'we' have such an effect on Mother Earth.... the warming is HER idea, and we just have to go along with it.... nothing we do is going to stop or alleviate it.... but HE gets a PRIZE for talking about 'what we need to do'?????... balderdash!!!...

I have no opinion of Gore either way, however, his media blast on global warming is nothing new. Any book on climateology will tell you that global warming has been going on since the end of the last ice age approx. 10,000 years ago. He has given us a little bit of information that is being used as a scare tactic by the media and politicians. I wish he had given the whole picture. Global warming will continue no matter what we do on this planet. It's a cycle of nature. Pollution has accelerated global warming, but the warming will continue if all pollution stopped tomorrow.

Fighting? I don't think it's a personal duel between Gore and anybody. He is doing what he is convinced is good, that he won the Peace Prize while doing it shows he is doing something worthwhile to a whole lot of people.
Al Gore to me is living out his self-actualization (according to Mr. Abraham Maslow). Self-actualization is not about money, fight or anything, it's about you doing something that makes you feels like you. Who knows, he might have found his happy place.
We should not over-thought on what he has done, doing, or will do.

Perhaps he has hit upon a genius idea!! When acid rain was destroying the forests in New York state there were moves against fossil fuels and other smokestack emissions. They got nowhere as it was just a small group of people who actually lost something.
When asthma rates increased, same story
Air pollution controls, nope!, didn't affect enough
Kyoto Protocol, no way, no support no evidence
Control smog, why bother it's mostly just LA
etc etc
What Al may have hit upon, to get actual action on this dirtying of our airways, this money grubbing society that will sacrifice the citizen's overall health and feeling of well-being for a few bucks, just our overall misalignment of priorities, is an enemy (real or imaginary) that will get a grassroots movement so unanimous in magnitude that actual real CHANGE will happen. And that enemy is global warming and it doesn't really matter if you believe in it or not. Just support the recommendations and those who can bring them into actual practice.
I have often found myself strongly in favor of the RESULT of a battle against all those things that supposedly cause global warming. But I have never been able to convince myself that man was actually affecting global warming. If we follow all the recommendations for reducing global warming and they even dummy up some numbers to make it look like it worked......I no longer care; Because we will get what I've always thought we should have, a cleaner environment for our children and grandchildren, cleaner air for them to breath (throw away the inhalers) and cleaner water to drink.
I will avoid discussions of global warming causes, computer models and the faulty data collection. That always just leads to non-productive discussion anyway. I will just support those who want to see all measures that can be brought to bear on this.
For starters: Draft Al Gore for President, at least VP again.
Down with all oil and fossil fuel, up with nuclear (hey it's actually the cleanest we got), up with hydrogen, up with the all-electric cars, up with fuel cells, up with wind and hydro, up with cars run on compressed air (like they already are trying in Mexico), down with fixed oil prices, up with a free market place and competition........
I think you can guess who I think he was fighting....

He was (in my opinion) fighting a losing battle until he stumbled on the "global warning" hype & used this in a brilliant attempt to MARKET himself & make his name a household word. Mr. Gore is THE KING OF B.S., in my opinion. I was in Jr. College in 1971 & we had many lectures from unknowns & well-knowns about warming, air quality, waste, etc. IF this isn't being orchestrated, then it is certainly being exploited & Al Gore has placed himself at the top of his own personal pyramid at planet Earth! Hillary is as close to second place as she ever will be. She sold out long before she ever set foot in the white house as "First Lady". None of these people have a clue about what the real world is dealing with in terms of needs & reforms of the American way of life. They do have great lectures, slide shows & book signings that get them a tax break when they need it, & none of them will ever have to worry about being unemployed or penniless! These are the things that make ya want to go...hmmmmmmmmm!

Al Gore deeply and sincerely cares about our earth. He is a man of peace and is truly deserving of this most honorable prize. Please, allow us Americans to keep Mr. Gore as we have so few leaders to respect and be proud of. He is probably one of the few who has an IQ and a pure heart. And thank you one and all for so many wonderful kind words in his defense.
