Feminism is about equality and this clearly shows a need for this in North America.
What is your opinion?

Racism never went away, from either side. It just got better at hiding itself behind veiled smiles and smirking eyes.

I've been in an interracial relationship for over 11 years now. It never ceases to amaze me when someone gives a long hard 'look'. Even tho' I should know better! 'Well meaning' white folks told me to be careful about getting involved with a black man, because they said the sisters were going to give me a hard time. I can honestly say I was only approached once, by a distant black relative of hubbies who said I was 'keeping a good brother down'. That's it! The rest of the looks or comments have come from old white men in their 50's.

Not to say that younger generations don't have racism as well, but it seems mostly to stem from the older generations that had hate for breakfast every morning.

I've also been the 'victim' of reverse discrimination, and am saddened that this racism thing just doesn't know when to stop. We can go to a white bar and get looks, or we can go to a black bar and get looks. So, its alive and well on both sides of the spectrum, unfortunately.

My 12 year old son was 1 1/2 when my now husband / his stepdad entered his life. I remember he came home one day in 4th or 5th grade crying because this black kid at school didn't want to be friends anymore. When he asked him why, he said "Cause you're white and you have hung and killed my people." He was so shocked and saddened, as he had been raised in a VERY culturally diverse family. I figured someday he would find out how cruel the world could be, I just didn't expect him to encounter that so young.

We have a real problem in the city of St. Louis, baaaad ghetto's, corrupt police, rampant drugs and violence, failing school systems that the state has been forced to take over, as well as very active gangs. I went to my best friends house one day, who lives in one of the worst neighborhoods (how do you think I got my skreet cred? lol!) , and this little girl about 5 or 6 years old came over. She sat staring at me quietly for a long time, when Kim asked her, "Girl, ain't cha ever seen a white lady before?", and my mouth fell open when the little girl said "No.". She then came up to me and asked if she could touch my hair, I almost cried to think of how this child was living in such a completely different way than my kids. She then asked if she could come home with me to see my house and my kids toys, etc,. The guilt I felt over this was consuming. After a looong talk with my very smart husband, he made me understand that by raising our kids in a culturally diverse way, we ARE doing our part to 'change the world'.

As diverse as STL is, we were 10x more comfortable cavorting around Seattle or San Diego where interracial relationships are happenstance. Boy, you should see the looks we get when we go ANYWHERE south. People are sick and disgusting! But, like I said before, I see the problem from as much an unbiased stand point as could be possible, and I see both sides taking an active part in racism. How do we stop it? I dunno!! There was an excerpt in a Michael Moore book, can't remember which one, where he said everyone should marry a person of a different race, blend our children and there will be no more racism. Not sure that would work, but it would be interesting to see who would go along with it and who would protest the loudest.

I grew up with parents who were activists, and marched in many civil rights rallies back in the 60's and 70's. I even went to some with them, but don't remember much, probably just thought it was an angry parade....lol!

young ones get into fights each and all of the time! yet to get 22 years and lose the possibility to pass to college for some dumb college combat? And what related to the babies who hung the nooses contained in the tree? it is extremely elementary for others to comb that action off if none of their relatives have been ever lynched. (Louisiana has had the main lynchings contained in the background of usa). What they don't inform you on some information stations is that the countless comparable Black scholars have been beat up days past at a celebration via some Whites. What they don't inform you is that the White boy who have been given the concussion saved racially taunting those comparable Black young ones approximately being beat up on the celebration. And after he have been given the concussion he replaced into shortly released from the scientific institution and went directly to college that night. What they don't inform you is that some Black young ones in Jena had weapons pulled on them via White ADULTS multiple cases for not something, and that they have got been given arrested. it extremely is what happens each and all of the time in Jena. i don't condone the toddler's strikes, yet at what factor are Black young ones predicted to get use to this variety of therapy? A Black student asked the crucial for permission to sit down decrease than the campus tree! i'm sorry, yet that asserts plenty. It only amazes me that it extremely is the comparable usa that Blacks and Whites are going to conflict for. And in case you think of that there is not any injustice in this incident, than think of that it replaced into your toddler spending two decades in detention center for a school combat. I signed the petition and that i'm actual going to donate money in direction of the protection of those young ones.

Racism is still very much prevelent in the US. However, it's more sophisticated. Just because we no longer have seperate water fountains, there are still schools in the US today that still hold seperate proms (one for whites and one for the other races) hmmmmm!!

You can't tell me that in the US today racism still isn't prevelent in politics, schools, gov't and the military!

No I don't want to generalize. Not all white people are racist! That's simply not true. There are just some who still feel that anyone not a mirror image of themselves are inferior in some shape or form. The stereotypes start to run rampid!

Have you heard about the rash of hate crimes since the Jena 6, in which nooses are used to intimidate Black Americans? And this is by adults, yet!

Sadly, racism is still an issue. No amount of training or education will kill it. Fools will always be fools.

Racism is a problem in America on both sides. Minorities here are just as racist as the evil white people. I've had a black girl try to jump me and scream racist abuse towards me because I was simply a white girl in a black neighborhood. I didn't do anything to her and still don't understand it. For some reason it is believed only white people are racist in this country. I've met more minorities with an attitude than I have met white racists.

Until we get rid of affirmative action we will never have true equality. People should be judged by their merit and quality of character. Quotas promote racism.

All I think it really shows is how out of touch with reality some people can be.

The truth of the matter is, racism has never really gone away and is just as pervasive on either side of the color line.

Please don't think that everybody in Louisiana is racist. I am from Louisiana (different town), and I can tell you that this is an isolated incident in a small, small town. The rest of us are not like that.

I agree with you that feminism is about equality, but "feminism" is not what's needed here; open-mindedness about other races is what's needed here.

you don't need the jena 6 case to show that racism is pervasive in the us - you need only read through the answers on y!a.

and it is not just white-on-black: that may be the worst, but what about redneck attitudes to muslims, hispanics, latinos, the french ... (the french???)

I am tired of people saying that minorities are just as racist as whites when truthfully minoriteis have no control, therefor do not have the ability to harm anyone with racist ways like whites that is why racism is such a issue to minorities,(no power remember) also, the idea that minorities are just as racist as whites does not flow with me because that is a excuse for things to remain the way they are covert racism.
