Well, I think that the discussion is not so much that it does not explain evolution, but rather that it challenges the ideas of Darwin. There is a difference. Darwin talked about the accumulation of small changes over time until you had something new and different. The thing about the Cambrian explosion is that you had so much change in such a short period of time.
Stephen J. Gould like to talk about punctuated equilibrium, the idea that while small changes might accumulate, occasionally there would be periods where lots of changes would happen. In other words, everything goes along smoothly for a while, then all hell break loose and there is rapid change, and then things go smooth again for a while. He firmly believed in evolution, he just had a different idea about certain aspects of it.

Evolution is a clarification of the Cambrian explosion. there replaced right into a speedy enhance interior the variety of species for the duration of that factor era. because of the fact it replaced right into a protracted time in the past, there are little or no fossils from that factor era, so scientists don't have each and every of the solutions with regards to the specifics. Creationists use this to intend that a bunch of species "regarded" quite then progressed.

We now have found, from rocks older than the start of the Cambrian, a multitude of smaller shell remains, as well as soft-bodies animals. This suggests that the "explosion" actually was from life forms becoming bigger and therefore more noticeable in the fossil record.

Well if you're looking for a creationistic argument, they would explain the huge number of fossils that occur during that time period to have been the result of a massive fload a la Noah's Ark - they simply deny the rock dating as "fake" or "inaccurate" to add to their Bible spin.. but it doesn't really account for the explosion in biodiversity (and the subsequent diversification and massive extinction of crazy looking things like Anomalocaris.
