Should I paint them a particular color or just leave them plain or get long nails or what? The costume is sort of a sexy pirate's wench kind of thing.

Paint them black, of course. Or a shade of red (or even purple) that is so dark it almost looks black.
Mine are going to be really dark green for my Poison Ivy costume.

buy fake nails and paint the fake nails black. Get some skull and crossbone nail stickers on them

paint them black or blood red. Either that or pick a color to match your outfit.

Paint a big capital 'A' on your thumbnail. Then, on all the rest of your nails, do 'r's.

you should grow them out a bit...and go put your hands in dirt and make them look nasty. Arrrg!
