Its an inferior/superior complex. We like to look good, because it makes us feel good. If we see another woman who we think looks better, it makes us feel inferior, and we work at becoming superior. Its called vanity. :P

To find something about themselves that they feel is better then on the person who they think is attractive to the general public.

Example: Her breasts are bigger, but mine are perkier.

This supposedly gives a woman some needed self-esteem, however the negative effects of this comparison thing is that you start to compare everything you have to everyone out there just to find your fix and you can't ever find it because you obsess about it and obsess and obssess and obsess. Pretty soon you focus your entire day just on trying to appease the general public.

All women are beautiful and have beautiful souls, so as long as they don't fill them with this non-sense. Just relax ladies and don;t judge us men either. We will all be in a better environment if we looked for good qualities in people rather then always look for the bad qualities.

Because women are taught that they have to have a perfect body to be sexually attractive to the opposite gender. Men don't have the same type of peer pressure. Men compare themselves on the sports field not the runway. You don't have to have a perfect body to compete in sports you just have to know how to play the game. So body image isn't as important to men as it is to women. When we get more women designing clothes for women and when we start to put more emphasis on women in sports than we will start to see our bodies for what they really are a tool to use to our benefit not
as a sex toy for other people.

Quick story...I went to a funeral on monday and when I walked up my so called friends all stared me up and down, I'm sure it wasn't because of what I was wearing....It is because I am 109 lbs. and 5' tall, 26 years old and no children... They're all around the same age or a yr or two older with as many as four children... Most of them are taller than me and all weigh a lot more than me....So definately they compare bodies! I don't think they realize that they make me feel like an idiot when they do things like that....Even though I should feel better about myself because I do have a better body than them, it makes me insecure.

because most of the women they don't believe in their selves. also they have models that tent to behave in that way and the imitate this behavior. also men they see woman's body as part of reproduction and they want to have the most if i could say thin or well formed body to attract men's eyes. in that way the compete each other in that way.

To check out the "competition". Men do it to. It's often "I wish I had their will to excerise and be fit".
