South Carolina is a little overrated by the ranking, but it is just because teams have been going through major upsets. They have one of the toughest defenses in the nation and could hold up fairly well against the top 10 teams in college football. They have just enough of an offensive explosion to go along with the nasty d that they play. I don't think they are lucky by any means. Intercepting, returning fumbles for TD's, and even making big plays on offense is not a lucky feat when it happens week after week. They are a solid team and should be ranked high especially with their schedule. We will have to wait and see with what they can do against Tennessee, Florida, Arkansas, and Clemson. Tough road ahead even with suffering one loss from a tough beginning.

Not overrated. Not even the third most talented team in the loaded SEC on either side of the ball, but a solid, disciplined defense and an offense that admittedly doesn't score a ton (29 ppg) but makes the most of an efficient passing scheme. Also solid special teams play. With Spurrier coaching, they win by being the more prepared team on the field every week. In college football, luck = turnover differential and the Gamecocks average 1.4 interceptions and 1.6 fumbles recovered per game.

Yes, they are overrated and yes they are lucky. But everyone ahead of them except for LSU is overrated. As a group, they all have flaws.
The trouble is that you look around and with all of the upsets, there is no one to put in their (or anyone else 2-7) place. So even though they are overrated their ranking is, for the moment, legit.

# 7? Probably not. USAToday's ranking @ #12 is probably more accurate. They did beat Georgia on the road and trounced a very good Kentucky team. Butch Davis will improve UNC, but I think South takes North on Saturday. Rankings are subjective for the most part anyway. How about a playoff system finally!!!

They have a good defense and a good coach. They actually remind me of Florida last year. I don't know if I would have them at number 7, but I think they are a good team. I would have them around 10 or 11.

as to them getting exposed this weekend against the tar heels, not a chance. two touchdown win tomorrow.
