Could I use Wine Tools to emulate windows and run netgear wireless assistant? Would that work or is there an easier way. I don't want to install any linux distros, just run live cds. Is there any distro that will easily let m connect to a wireless network?

Here is a good article on using Knoppix with wireless, it ain't easy and WINE wont work. The NDIS wrapper will in most cases.
from the Knoppix site

Basically you need the correct driver for your wireless card!

Are you using a wireless network? Knoppix isn't the only live cd. There are also fedora spins and gentoo releases. You may have better results with the Fedora. WINE is an emulation layer. What you will be doing is running an emulation layer on an emulation layer- knoppix runs with qemu- and you will have to set up networking to run networking.
Go to frozentech and distrowatch to search for live cd's.

It relies upon on the version of Knoppix. lots of the older variations, as suggested above, did no longer have the driving force help for the 2200BG card. newer variations of Knoppix do incorporate it, so which you're able to desire to be high quality with a greater moderen version.
