The Kurds live in three adjoining countries, Turkey , Iraq and Iran. This area is known as Kurdistan. They have been fighting for their own state for a long time and the Turks have brutally suppressed all attempts by the Turkish Kurds to form their own state.
If Iraq breaks up as it probably will , the Kurdish part of Iraq will probably become a separate state and this will give encouragement to theTurkish Kurds.
The Turks have threatened to invade Iraq to stop this happening.
