Do you fight Fire with Fire....or Water?

To fight fire with fire is an expression of the extreme , for example an oil rig fire is so extreme it cannot be fought with water - the answer - fight fire with fire - blow the oil rig up and the resulting fireball will extinguish itself because the fireball will instantly exhaust all the oxygen available to feed it . A fire can't burn without oxygen . They could not find enough water to put out the great fire of London , so they started another controllable fire a few miles away to remove anything than could burn and thus stop the wild fire spread . The same thing was done in San Francisco in the 1800's .

It's going to depend on how bad that fire is. Sometimes water works just fine. Other times, fire is the only thing I see working. If the fire hasn't had much of a chance to burn, I just smother it and am done. : )

I fight fire with baking soda.....it's usually the catch pans under my stove burners bursting into flame

well, not an electrical fire with water, or an oil spill.
But for an oil pipe fire maybe an explosion?
