Seems to me taxes are way too high.
Taxed when you go get groceries. Taxed when you pay your bill. Taxed at the gas pump. Taxed if you save money. Taxed if you invest money. Taxed even when you die.

Yes, taxes are too high, and there are several taxes on top of taxes. For example, you pay federal, state, and local taxes, Social Security (good luck if you ever see that), as well as sales taxes, property taxes, and taxes on other items you consume. Yes, you pay taxes on money that's already been taxed. Lovely, isn't it? We should limit, if not eliminate, foreign aid and cut taxes significantly, but I do have to say that foreign aid for the most part goes to countries where the poor are in a much more precarious situation than the poor in the US are.

Because they can buy into the Gang Of Pirates, while poor folk can't buy a seat at the table.

The GOP prattles on about taxes, but are really only care about the costs they are charged for the billions they rake in. Their greed is beyond measure, largely because just when you think you have seen it all it jumps to unimagined heights again.

All the "Foreign Aid" that the US ever gave was never more than economic merchantilism. We loan money to a corrupted dictator, who is required to buy American goods at absurd prices after he takes his cut. Then after the dictator is overthrown, either the process repeats or the loan is called in, or the dictator is killed and the successor is given the same choice. It has been this way for a very long time, the current Bush Leagues are only the most recent.

The amount we pay in foreign aid is not even enough for you to notice on your taxes.

As for if taxes are to high the government does not take in the money they spend it taxes so either taxes are too low or the government spends too much. The interest payments on the national debt are many times what we pay in foreign aid taken in more taxes for a few years to reduce that would save more on taxes in the long run then stopping all foreign aid.

Nothing is free every time you say the government should do something that money has to come from some place.

I agree. I do try to at least get some of it back. I figure my propert tax is covered by my tax refund from mortgage interest. That's not too bad. I only use credit cards that offer rewards. It helps offset some of the taxes on purchases lol. Some offer cash back options which are not taxable as long as they are low. Reinvesting money saves on taxes. Say if you sold your house and mad a 250k profit or less and are single there is no federal tax. Sadly, even with these maneuvers you can't avoid them all. Oh, and in death leave everything in a trust as opposed to a will. There is little or no tax.

Working poor? USA standards or world standards? Our "poor" have it better than most countries upper middle class. Refrigerator, electricity, cable, cell phone, microwave,... People should concentrate more on being thankful for what they have.
This is the only country in the world that the "poor" people are fat. In USA the rich get richer and the poor get richer.
And yes there are way too many taxes.

A good question. Why do Iraqis get so much money (well we all know it goes to Halliburton) but why is so much SENT to Iraq when New Orleans turned into a toilet?
