I believe you're referring to the character "Nancy Drew" - however this last movie wasn't the character's film debut.
To Quote:
"Former child actress Bonita Granville portrayed Nancy Drew in four Warner Bros. films directed by William Clemens in the late 1930s: Nancy Drew: Detective (loosely based on The Password to Larkspur Lane), Nancy Drew: Reporter, Nancy Drew: Trouble Shooter, and Nancy Drew and the Hidden Staircase, the only one to borrow its title from a book in the series, although the plot was altered substantially. Frankie Thomas was cast as the rechristened "Ted" Nickerson, who acted more as a sidekick than boyfriend. Like everyone else said, it is Nancy Drew. The books were wonderful. I used to read them all the time! The movie is terrible. It doesn't do the books any justice. It is kind of a joke. Read the books!
