black mold is extremely toxic. I would inform the the former tenant about it. Tell him/her that the problem needs to be rectified immediately . If the problem doesn't get resolved, the next thing to do would talk to the owners of the apartment complex and see what they can do to help. In the meantime, i would start looking for another place to live ,so your health does not become compromised

First, take a few pictures in case you need them on down the road. Certainly call the landlord today!! They should check it out within a few hours and give you an answer on what might be the problem. They might just treat it with bleach and say "It's gone" at which point you can look into the local health department and show them the pictures. They might even do an inspection. Who knows, maybe this landlord has been in trouble before on this mold issue!

Absolutely not. If they are feisty enough, they may call the health inspector and they will order it vacated at your expense until it can be properly taken care of. Black mold is a serious health risk to anyone living or visiting the property. Even if they saw what it was when they moved in, you still have to have it taken care of. If it's you that's renting the property, your landlord must take care of that problem.

not all mold is toxic , in fact 0nly a few varieties are, get it tested before you panic. People don't panic when they have mold in the shower. Test it first
