My daughter was sterilised in January. She was feeling unwell so went to see her GP. She is 6 weeks pregnant. Has this happened to anyone else as I have never heard of it before.

She was sterilised after having an ectopic pregnancy. This will be her 7th child.

I have heard of this before. She needs to get good prenatal care as this puts her in a higher risk for ectopic pregnancy. I had a friend who got pregnant after she had her tubes tied, unfortunately she lost the baby. Best of luck to your daughter.

Doctors will never give a 100% guarantee,
It depends on the procedure used and as many opt for a tubal tie which can be reversed later, pregnancy afterwards is a lot more common than people realise. I think it's 1 in a hundred (not sure)The body itself can reject the ties depending on what is used.
In my own case as a further pregnancy would have been dangerous, I was not only tied but a section of the fallopian tubes were removed. This is irreversible and unlikely to result in a pregnancy, though even then Doctors would not give a 100% guarantee!
The only guaranteed method is Full hysterectomy which they only do in extreme cases or in older women.

It's not 100% guaranteed, so yes, it has happened before. About 1 in 200 women who have been sterilised will get pregnant if they use no other contraception.

i have asked to be sterillsed and have been told its not 100% something like 1 in 100 fall pregnant this is also the reason on the consent form there is a bit that reads along the lines of if it does not work the hospital are not to blame saves them being sued!!!
i hope your daughter is ok she obviously didn't want any more children it seems so unfair
good luck to you both

It does happen although it's rare. I have an aunt that got baby #4 that way.

nothing is 100% effective so unless they took out both ovaries and her uterus then she still had a chance at pregnancy.
