First check the "Properties" for your DVD Drive and check that you either have it set at x8 or automatic for burning. Next, within the DVD Drive's Properties, check which formats your DVD Drive supports. You may be trying to burn to an unsupported blank media (Disk). It's likely that you are trying to burn to a DVD -R when you need DVD +R or vice-versa. One other possibility is Windows Media Player. If you are trying to burn via WinMP, the application does not burn straight to disk. Instead, it burns a copy in a folder that is named the same as your DVD Drive. In other words, if your DVD Drive is D:\\ or E:\\ WinMP creates a folder named D: or E: You have to open this folder and select the files that you want to burn and then select "Burn to Disk".

Well since the software for the burner will detect how fast your drive will burn not how fast the media will accept, the software you use will show the speed of your drive.

Now onto why you can't burn on it, does it already have something on it? If so, then most likely what had happened is that the session and the disc was closed the last time it was burnt to.

Does it burn other DVDs? Keep in mind too, if the disc and or session was not closed the last time, then the file you're trying to burn may be too big for the size that's available on the media.

Any error messages? What happens when you try to burn the disc? And what software are you using to burn?

A lot of blank DVDs are sometimes not compatible with every burner. Try a few brands until you find one that works.

Hi. I usually burn DVDs at the slowest speed. This is more reliable, in my opinion. Make sure your software is not set to 16x by the disk.
