because my guppies had babies, and i read that the moms will eat them, so its best to seperate them.
so i was thinking about just going out and buying like a little betta tank for them, but do they need the pump/filter or whatever?

For the first few weeks of their life guppy fry do not create enough waste to need a filter. As long as you do water changes every day or every other day you can keep them in a bowl or tank without a filter. However, you will need a heater because they will not grow quickly without warmth. They should actually be kept warmer than the adults if you want them to grow fast and show color as soon as possible.

If you want to save space and money, you can create your own instant fry nursery. Just cut off the bottom off of a large, clear soda bottle or water bottle and clean it with bleach and warm water. Then poke holes all over it with a large needle and fasten it to the inside edge of your fish tank. That will allow it to keep warm and allow for water flow without the need of buying another filter and heater. Then you can put the guppy fry in there so they are safe from being eaten until they are big enough to be released back into the main tank.

as long as your aquarium or tank has a wide surface area, u do not need any pump. Guppies are pretty hardy so should be able to stand it. a tank with the surface area of about 1 1/2 ft by 2 to 2 1/2 ft would suffice. when they are bigger(appoximately about 1 1/2 cm long), u can then get a filter/pump.

I normally throw in some lettuce into the breeding tank when i wanna get babies guppies. By the time the babies are born, the rotting veg will provide additional food supply for them. since your is already born, check with your local supplier for help in this area.

good luck

When I bred guppies, I cut apart large gatorade containers and kept the babies in the bottom half of those until they were large enough to join the community. You may want to consider a complete 5 gal set up for them to grow up in. They will be fine without a pump for a while. I agree with the other answer that you should do small water changes since there won't be a pump. Good luck!

If you are willing to do daily small water changes and siphon out all of the "left-overs" the fry will be OK. However they will do much better with a small sponge filter, that's air driven, with a slow gentle bubbling action. Since the sponge filter would not be cycled, you will still need to do daily water changes any way,but the Oxygen level will be better. If you are going to do this frequently you would be ahead to keep a sponge filter running in the main tank so you will have one ready when needed.
The tank should be located in a warm area away from drafts and direct sunlight.
After a few weeks the fry will have grown enough to return to the main tank.

they grow fast , they will be fine without a pump or filter , every day take a litlle bit of the old water out and replace it , be sure to use chlorine remover on the new water , as soon as they have a little bit of size put em back in the original tank , lots of plants give them hiding places from the bigger fish
