They hit 2 of the reasons
1) Bringing in nasties - we got hit when an employee opened an attachment in their Hotmail.
2) Confidenciality - yeah maybe so you can't email out sensative data
and...
3) So you don't waste time all day reading your personal email!

Your employer could have a block in place as well as policies because checking your personal email runs the risk of bringing in outside infections. Thus compromising the network.

The usual reason would be for security concerns. The idea would be to limit communications so that someone doesn't accidentally email out confidential information to parties who are not authorized.

Because if your boss has any common sense, he has your network setup so you cannot do so. Where I work, we have a continuing problem with employees noodling around and bringing in viruses. This results in the whole system being shutdown until the system has been cleared up.

Their is heavy chances that ur email contains virus. So instead of allowing ur email & get virus, they simply block it using firewall.
