"The White House offered an initial reaction to the Nobel win by President Bush's 2000 opponent. "Of course, we're happy that Vice President Gore and the IPCC are receiving this recognition," said deputy press secretary Tony Fratto."

So what gives yahoo answers conservatives, why aren't you joining King George and his spokesperson to congratulate Al Gore?

"In a statement, Gore said he was "deeply honored," adding that "the climate crisis is not a political issue, it is a moral and spiritual challenge to all of humanity.""

Doesn't that make it sound like it's a religion?

Perhaps the yahoo conservatives are more honest about their feelings than the White House conservatives.

The cornerstone of Republican ideology is the corporatist mantra of continually expanding markets. Needless to say, the bubble has to burst eventually, and that is what Al Gore's message implies. He must therefore be opposed for partisan reasons, whether he is right or not.

It is similar historically to the isolationists of the 1930s, who refused to admit that a rearming Germany could threaten the United States. It took the attack on Pearl Harbour to wake us up to a worldwide problem; what will it take this time?

Further, if the Bush Leaguers will not accept the endorsement of the Nobel Prize Committee on the subject, whose word will it take before they revisit the issue?

The White House is occupied by a globalist. The White House must be political and diplomatic, at least in public. Who knows what is going on behind the scenes?

Personally, I am laughing my @$$ off, because not only is Al Gore a phony fool and pompous idiot, but this also exposes the hyprocrisy and stupidity of the Nobel prize committee.

Consider previous winners: Jimmy Carter & Yasser Arafat

Well, for starters he won the award for raising awareness about Global Warming while flying all over the world in a jumbo-jet. He mad millions off of people truly concerned with the enviornment with his movie, and is still championing companies he is associated with as avenues for greener products.

he is a blow hard, like every other politician. I dont like Bush either, but at least with him you know what you're getting. Gore is fake and people eat it up.

Nobody's ever gone wrong under estimating the intelligence of the average american. (not my quote, but a very famous person's)

David, The current crop of elected officials in both parties are corporatists, dont be dense. Pelosi, Boxer, etc. husbands companies have mysteriously profited greatly while they were in office, just like repubs have.

Our two parties are sell-outs to the highest bidder.

I just heard about Al Gore winning the Nobel Peace Prize this year. I'm 'conservative' (although I am not necessarily in favor of George Bush's scheme for 'the war on terrorism') and I am EXTREMELY HAPPY that Mr. Gore won. I hope this 'win' puts SAVING THIS PLANET on the 'top' of the 'list of priorities' for ALL of us ... but Mr. Gore has EVERY RIGHT to be PROUD ... he's in a very 'small group' of people, and is now recognized for all the 'good work' he's still doing, and that is a VERY GOOD THING.

Only time will tell about Mr. Gore, and most of us won't be around to know if his inconvenient truths or true or false. Al is either way ahead of his time or he has been duped by his own faulty rationale. If he, however, inspired any environmentalist think tanks to sit up and start wondering if we should give a rat's butt about polar bears, then the man deserves an award.

I was thinking after hearing about Gore's Nobel prize how the electorate really screwed up in 2000. Instead of having an intelligent president we've been stuck with a moron for the past seven years.
