you got yourself twisted men. it is the other way around. most English people want to be Americans. in addition, that's the last thing Americans want to be, English. i mean just think of it, all English people look and talk like some one form the 1800s.

I don't want to be English. I am quite happy with who I am and where I was born although I love the way the English talk.

I'm a very proud American woman. Although I love most Europeans, I personally don't know anyone that wants to be anything else here besides American, regardless of our government. Guess you'll have to pick on someone else.

I though that they wanted to be Irish more than English, beacuse while I was in the U.S they used alway come out with with comments like( Im one 8th Irish & my great great great grand mother was Ireland so Im Irish American..Im from Wales so they sometimes thought that I was Ireland. But from my eperience for the people I meet in the U.S seem to want to be associated with wanting to be Irish.

Yeah, you wouldn't have thought they fought a revolutionary war against Great Britain to get their independence would you? Now they carp on about that parasite HM the Queen all the time. Priceless!

I can't speak for "ALL" Americans, but I can certainly venture a guess as to why we Americans admire Great Britain.
Here's the deal - think about how guys (most of us, anyway), once we're born, are constantly trying to get back to the womb - figuratively, of course (as this is our sexual drive) - but the point is the primal urge to return home.
So, the love of the mother country may be the reason why.
So, that's my take on it.

They probably like our history, culture, customs, royalty etc but that doesn't mean they want to be English. Maybe some have their roots/ancestry here so that is the attraction.
