a LOT of truth...

i was listening to an interview on the radio the other day. the topic came up of the SHARP decline in US Soldier deaths and Iraqi civilian deaths in the month of September. Of the 3 major news networks in America, only 1 ran the story- ABC to their credit. When asked WHY the other networks didnt run the story, the PD's said that "There was no indication that 1 month was a 'trend', and they didn't want to spread a false 'hope' that things are getting better". When asked if the scenario had been reversed- if September had had the HIGHEST US & Iraqi deaths, both PD's remarked that THAT sotry CERTAINLY would have been "Newsworthy".

News today is no longer about reporting news- its about advancing personal agendas. and the "Sensational" Stories are those that get the press.

Journalistic rules and practices are much more defined and rigid today than in the 19th century, when most newspapers amounted to no more than political party puff pieces. Nineteenth century newspapers also enjoyed publishing the gory details about steamship accidents, train crashes, and other disasters. People would read with such delight. So, my point is that it's easy for us to look at the media and be disappointed with how biased and money-focused it is, but please point to one point in history when it wasn't and I'll give you a dollar.

The same was always true of the news. Thomas Jefferson used to complain about it.
