An old saying is "history is told by the winners". Sometimes facts about an event are changed to make a person(or event) look better or worse depending on the"spin" you give it. It even happens in some events today^_^.

History is a record of human events made by humans (usually the dominant humans of the time). Even if the events were fully understood (which they never are) then humans will always find reasons to lie about them (ranging from sheer preservation to ego grooming).
Even if humans did know all the relevent information and even if they did want absolute accuracy (which is quite a stretch) then it would still be impossible to have a completely objective History because we can never completely escape our own point of view even if we want to.

Some events in history are kept secret, and yet centuries later people will still claim to know the "one and only truth."
Take what renosgirl said, "Because his story is exactly what it is. His story. Someone's own version of what happened' and apply that to the Bible and you may understand why it is many peoples' best interests to keep it that way.
