He can donate the money and still keep the prize. Why on earth would that create a "failure in communication" with Hillary.

Vanity Fair has a great article on the rift between Gore and Hillary starting in '92. I would read that.

As to the talk regarding his electric bill - part of the reason it is so high is because he buys clean energy - wind, solar - renewables. So he is voluntarily paying more money (like a voluntary tax - or the real cost of energy, depending on how you look at it). That hardly makes him a hypocrite.

Why would he reject something he's paid into getting? The Nobel Prize is just like the Oscars and the Academy Awards, they have to pay a handsome fee to get on the list to be nominated, then they are voted on. If he hadn't paid, he wouldn't even be close to a nomination.
