I am a piano teacher. I work in an international music school. I have a new students at six. a little girl who have a double thumb in her lefthand. I don't know if she felt ashame about it or not. I need to know how good her parent expact her to play, but her parent avoided the issue. I now look the girl as a normal child, and teach in a normal way. was it good to us the left hand thumb or using other finger as substitude? it is unconvenient to play on her left hand thumb.

Someday she might wish to teach piano. And probably other examples that I cannot think of right now.

I would teach her the same as you teach others so that is her base to judge by. But dont ignore the extra digit. Help her to experiment in using her extra in ways that would be impressive to other piano players. That way she has the normal base in case she wishes to teach others, and a reason to appreciate her extra gift above and beyond that normal base.

!
She has a double thumb... does that mean 2 come out of 1 or are there actually 2? Do "both" work properly?
Well, she should have no problems playing anyway. If the finger is disturbing, then use another one to substitute it.

I think it's good you teach her as you'd teach anyone else.
I mean, there are a buuunch of players out there who never had any lesson, totally screw up the technic and still are great players!!
Once I saw a guy on Youtube playing extremely well and fast, but he wouldn't use his thumbs! He is just another self-taught of the millions and millions out there.

In your case, I'm sure you'll use good sense and adapt it, if that feels necessary.
I'm sure she will turn out to be a great player. Haha many pianists out there are praying for extra fingers :)

You should let her and her parents in awe by showing how well she can play :)
