I am 22, I have had ovarian cysts before. The first time my doctor found one when I was 18,and she put me on birth control. The next time was when I was 20 and there were a few of them that dissolved by themselves, the third time was a few months ago and I had to have a biopsy to get rid of them. That was a little painful because they basically scrape the uterus lining. But if I were you, I would take that drive to the other hospital and get a 2nd opinion.

It is a VERY big possiblity that it could be a cyst. I am reading your question and you sound EXACTLY like I do. I have cysts and have been on BC since I was 13 because of the same issues. IT sounds like you do have a cysts, and they should be able to do an ultra sound on your stomach (not internal) to see them if they are there. Somjetimes it requires surgery to get them removed other times you have to let them burst on their own wich is painfull, but you feel SOOOO much better after. The pain you might be having now may be one that has already burst and the fluid is aggrivating everything. Look up Polycystic Ovarian Syndrom. I have this and many other females have it too with out knowing it. There are some other health problems they may go along with PCOZ (polycystic ovarian syndrom), that need to be addressed. Nothing life thratening, just stuff that is a pain in the butt. I hope you feel better hun! I know where you are coming from and they really do suck. Good luck hun, and if they are still "finding nothing" but you are still having the pain, KEEP PUSHING THEM TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT. I have been dealing with cysts for 8 years now, and they still wont do anything to help me. Its a long road if they keep coming back, but hopefully they will help you more than dr.'s have been helping me!!! Good luck love!!

There are different types of ovarian cysts. The most common, of course, are the cysts that form eggs. The other 3 that I'm familiar with are the dermoid, fibrous, & tumor. A dermoid cyst is a disgusting thing which holds 'left-overs' whether from your own embionic state or a babies [they often hold hair, teeth, etc]. A fibrous cyst is non-cancerous is just a growth on the ovary. A tumor is a growth that is pre-cancerous or cancerous.
One of the nasty little secrets about cysts is this: depending on where the ovulatory cyst develops, it can be more or less painful. If an ovum is developing on a portion of the ovary that is already scarred or stressed from abnormal growths, it can cause pain. [For instance, I have a scar on one of mine and it's excruciating when an ovum develops along the scar]
Now, all that having been said, y!a is no place to receive diagnosis. If you're concerned, then you need to go to a doctor. If you're not happy with the advise you received, get a second opinion.
Best wishes

I had one before I got pregnant; it hurt sooo bad when I was ovulating. They did an ultrasound to monitor it and make sure it was just a cyst. It was but it had increased in size. They did another ultrasound 2 months later and it was gone, completely! I wouldn't worry. I did a lot of research on ovarian cyst when I had mine and if you've never had any reproductive problems, are 25, and have had 3 healthy pregnancies, I wouldn't worry at all! I hope it goes away soon, just make sure they monitor it. Good luck!

I had an ovarian cyst that was basically half of my left ovary. I also had an ectopic pregnancy in my right fallopian tube. When the surgeon was removing my tube (it had exploded) he also removed the cyst on my ovary. I was 17 years old and was told I could NEVER have babies. I'm now 57, and have given birth to five MIRACLES (no fertility drugs, only one after being on birth control pills), all of whom are now grown and having kids of their own.
You don't say which side you are feeling this pain and tightness on ... if it's on the LEFT side, you need to see your doctor soon. If it's on the right, you may wait, but no more than two weeks. If this pain doesn't let up or gets worse, you'll need to see your doctor ... and if your doctor says you're okay and don't need treatment, you should go to another doctor for an 'opposing consultation' ... I'm not saying that the second doctor won't want to do the same thing, just that for your own safety you need a second opinion. MOST ovarian cysts DO NOT HURT, since there are no 'nerves' in the ovaries ... but your 'pain' may be the sign you have another problem in the same area, and the 'tightness' could be just 'tension' or another 'symptom' of something wrong.
As you said, the hospital you go to is 'horrible' ... I nearly DIED because I was given the wrong treatment at a horrible hospital (heart problems) so I suggest that you do need to take that long drive and go to a GOOD hospital for your care from now on. You have three children who NEED their mom ... so take care of yourself and see a GOOD doctor for your care from now on.

Ovarian cysts are actually very common and there are several different types of them too. I have a feeling you might be describing what is called a "corpus luteum". These can be annoying but usually do resolve themselves. I had a nasty bout with them when I was pregnant with my daughter and it took quite some time after until I was finally rid of them. You can read more about them here: http://www.drspock.com/article/0,1510,5335,00.html You might want to ask your doctor exactly what type of cyst it is just to be sure. Good luck.

I agree with marleeme.
There are lots of kinds of cysts and lots of reasons. The best thing to do is get checked out by a good ob/gyn.
I had my ovaries removed because of three cysts that grew to a bit more than golfball size and didn't shrink. I have a family history of ovarian and breast cancer and was 50 so it was a no brainer for me to have my ovaries out.
Chances are you won't have any problem, but getting checked out and monitored is the only way to find out safely and for sure!

I get ovarian cysts, I have what they call polycistic ovaries.
You need to call you Dr. and get in for an ultrasound ASAP. It could be nothing or the cyst could be ready to burst which is very painful. It could also have nothing to do with a cyst so please just go to a doctor to be sure.
