I do think they dream. Just as humans go through the REM stage of sleep, so do dogs. We twitch, and our eyes roll in the back of our head and I have seen my dog do this on several occasions. I can only think she is dreaming of chasing lizards or squirrels and dreams of getting treats when being a good girl. Good question by the way.

Actually - we were talking the other day about a situation and I thought it was only my dog that seemed to do it... but no... others do to. My boy seems to dream more when he's been out for the day say to a companion show or similar. It really is quite noticeable, as if his brain is reliving the whole thing. Anyone else found this as I find that quite amazing.

Totally. I think basically mammals only dream, and probably pet mammals have more various dreams than wild street mammals, because they live with humans. Most of the time I see my cat sleeping peacefully, but there were times when he seemed to be dreaming. No clue though on what he was dreaming though.

Hi,
Yes definitely. Same experiences as those above: my dog will make little whimpering sounds when she is having a bad dream and her little legs start moving as if running. Sometimes I wake her gently if it seems like she is having a bad dream. Sometimes I'm really amused and would love to know what she's dreaming when her tail starts wagging furiously!

Yes, all animals dream. They have the same nervous systems as humans so they are capable of dreaming the same way humans do.

I occasionally catch one of my bunnies dreaming. They usually sleep with their eyes open, but every once in a while Johnny will close his eyes, his head'll dip really far over to the side, and then his nose, eyes and just his face in general will start to twitch. I assume he's dreaming that he's in a huge field of dandelions (his favorite veggie) and can't decide where to start first!

Yes, I do think so. Maybe nightmares too!
When I watch my dog sleep, I sometimes see that she is shaking, and it gets worse, so I wake her up so that the "bad dream" will go away, lol.

Yes and they have nightmares too, I know since I've watched my dog Luey make funny noises.
I have no idea what they dream, I wish we could find out.
