Definitely let the kids go trick or treating. It's a great time and they will enjoy it.

Kids should be kids! Trick or treating is a "fun" experience which no child should be deprived of if it is done with the right safety precautions. Have a buddy system or an adult with them and carry a flash light. For Heaven's sake you're only a child once and you want them to have "good memories" of the good times, not the times that they wanted to have innocent fun and Mommy/Daddy wouldn't let them, yet everyone else did it! Bull crap with what overprotective parents won't let their kids do; they are probably just taking the easy way out. Going to school isn't safe either, so what are you going to do prevent them from getting an education? And the devil and evil are everywhere, you just have to know that God and guardian angels are everywhere also watching over you. Just remember that overprotective parents can spoil lots of good times for their kids, so lighten up and have some fun with your kids while you can because they grow up too damned fast!!! You don't want to have any regrets and say "Oh, I should have let them, look at the fun those kids are having", etc... Get real and enjoy life because life is too short to worry about such trivial things!

Tough question... I dont think that Halloween is a evil holiday or anything but I'm torn on trick-or-treating...i guess it depends on where you live... when i grew up by the time we were about 11 years old we were allowed to run the streets trick-or-treating by ourselves.... I dont think i would let my kids do that just because of how the world is today.... I would take my kids trick-or-treating to people's houses that i know, but i would not just let them go on their own like we were allowed to back in the day.... I think now days a better way to celebrate halloween is with a costume party with games and candy and what not..... just safer than asking strangers for candy..... too bad too, cuz we always had a blast!!!!

I read on the history of Halloween, and it began as a Pagan Holiday, and after Christians began to adapt the holiday and made it a day to celebrate the living, and the day after to give respect for the dead. they were still able to dress in costume and it became a family event and community affair.
I like the fact that the kids dress up and have fun. We don't have to call it Halloween if we feel it were a pagan holiday, then maybe we should call it something else and allow the kids to enjoy a great family evening.

its good fun. if your children are younger and not old enough (in your opinion) to go alone take the family and trick or treat. its fun for the family to have a theme. the adams family would be funny. go with some other families so the children can enjoy playing with thier friends. go around five before the sun is fully set. that way it is safer and most houses wont be asleep. (if its to late at nite the candy givers stop at around 7) if your children are old enough. they can go with some of thier friends. its fun also to have a pre and after party. gather (if not a school night) at someones house for a halloween party. not too big. could be you and another family. the kids can exchange candy and play games such as apple bobbing.

I'd only let children go out after dark at all with some sensible supervision. Unfortunately the world isn't such a safe place as we thought it was in the 50s and 60s!
I also think you need to talk about trick-or-treating with your children and then decide jointly if you want to take part. Lots of nice traditions have grown out of very dark and scary old foundations, and ours is an increasingly secular world. Even so, is it right to let your kids knock on people's doors and say "give me candy or I'm going to play a trick on you?"

Halloween is fun and yes I think parents should take their kids trick or treating to neighborhoods and houses of people they KNOW! Do it smartly don't just go anywhere and to anyones house! As for it being a celebration of evil or devil whatever people just take simple fun and have to make it into something horrid!

I think that it is harmless fun to let your kids dress up and go trick or treating. The only thing you have to watch out for now days are all the crazy people who think this is the perfect time to do harm to others. My advice Dress up Have Fun BUT be CAREFUL!

Yes, let them have fun collecting delicious goodies from people on Halloween Night in their costumes.
Don't listen to those obsessed Christians, they just want you to spend your money on denotions to the church, that's why they don't want you to celebrate Halloween.
The original tradition of trick or treating is about the belief that it is bad luck to not give anything to the poor who knock on doors for food. The bad luck would be getting nasty pranks done to you. Don't deprive your kids of this fun you will ruin their childhoods completely.
Anyone expecting you to sacrifice your own needs for their needs is selfish.

I think it depends on your religion/ the family. I personally see no connection and think that now it's just a holiday encouraged by Hallmark or some other company that wants your money, but you should just go out and have fun. Halloween has always been my favorite holiday becasue I like dressing up, decoratiing, and having costume parties.

I think that kids should be allowed to go trick or treating. I believe that it is just a fun day to pretend to be someone you are not and like everything else in life parents need to be a part of it. I as a parent go with my child door to door and check her goods before she is allowed to eat anything. As for it being just something else to bug people we go by the rule if the lights are on in the house we knock, if they are not on we don't go to that house.
